York International > Faculty & Staff> Employing International & Exchange Students

As per immigration policy, registered international and exchange students who are in full-time studies and hold a study permit are permitted to work on campus without requiring a work permit. That includes all campus departments and businesses that are physically located on the campus.

Campus departments or businesses interested in hiring an international student will need to provide the student with a “Job Contract” for the student to extend or apply for a new Social Insurance Number.

Please go to the following Human Resources and Social Development Canada website for details that must be included in the contract (including a sample contract):
http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/sin/employers/contract.shtml

Both the student and the employer should keep a copy of the signed contract.
