York has over 3200 international students and about 100 exchange students in any given year, so you've likely already had international students in some of your classes. This page gives a brief introduction to international and exchange students at York, and then supplies some helpful links that you can share with international and exchange students you come in contact with. Besides the links below, exchange and international students may come in person or call York International.

Don't forget that both exchange and international students are also eligible for most international programs for current students.

Exchange Students

The difference between international students and exchange students is that exchange students are actually enrolled and earning credits at one of our international partner institutions, but are studying at York temporarily - either for one or two terms. Specific programs for exchange students can be found on the Incoming Exchange Student website. Exchange students are also eligible for most International Student Programs & Services.

International Students

International students, on the other hand, are degree-seeking students without Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status, who often come to York for their entire degree. York offers a number of programs and services specifically to support international students which can be found at the International Student Programs & Services website.
